Jarrad's Reviews: "Blade of Rage" Demo
Blade of Rage is a fantasy RPG developed by Lone Wolf Don, on the RPG Maker Forums.
You play as Rage the Blade, a spellblade who recently lost his grandfather. You find yourself in ruins after a storm, you help a dwarf named Gudu Groundbreaker escape. the clutches of evil ratmen. You then travel to Stone's Throw Inn and meet Vespa the Vipress, a powerful warrior.
As usual the three parts I cover in the review are:
Gameplay
Presentation
and
Originality
Gameplay: "Blade of Rage" uses the default front view battle system of RMVX Ace, but you see the battler of the character you attack with before the move is preformed. The battles are all fun and present a challenge. You start off with a large amount of skills, which allows diverse gameplay from the start. Each character is suited for their own niche and really that niche only. Gudu is too slow to be the primary healer, characters in peril are usually dead before he can help. The entire party can be overpowered easily in the Ruins, by one skeleton.
Presentation: "Blade of Rage" uses the High Fantasy Resource bundle, which looks very good in this game. The maps are beautiful and the day night cycle coupled with the light effects makes for some nice realistic looking maps. Some dialogue is a little "dry" but most is well written.
Originality: It is very odd to see the High Fantasy pack, and I love it when I do see it. The characters are original, and their names roll off the tongue. The names of some enemies are generic, but they work. The entire game is a foray into the unknown in the RM world (Western RPGs)
Verdict: "Blade of Rage" is a wonderful, albeit short demo. If you get past it's quirks it is a really enjoyable experience. I can't wait until it is developed on more. 8.5/10

Jarrad's Reviews: You are NOT the Hero Demo
Are you tired of being running around slaying dragons and murdering bandits? Are you sick of getting crazy loot and being a l33t warrior? If so then "You are NOT the Hero" is the game for you.
Actually, "You are NOT the Hero" is the game for everybody it's great!
You play as Petula a normal girl in a normal town. She is awoken by the real "heros" when they steal her necklace. They "need" it to fight Chema's army of Doom. As stated in the title you are definitely not the hero. You just want your necklace back.
The three parts I will cover in the review are: Gameplay, Presentation, and originality.
Gameplay: The gameplay in YANTH is fresh and never gets tiresome. You have the ability to jump over obstacles, which results in losing some HP whenever you fall. In the first scene you must escape from guards by pressing the left and right arrow keys to fill your meter up and knock them out. There are no filler puzzles in this game, they all are significant and challenging without being frustrating. There is one very challenging area where you must dodge falling rocks, there are many of them and if you are short on HP and restoratives you will have a very bad time. But you can get some helpful items in the puzzle.
Presentation: This game is gorgeous, the maps are all well thought out and not to linear. The light effects make it look very realistic. There is a nice system for completing challenges where you are awarded stars by completing tasks listed in the most efficient way as possible. By far the best feature is the dialogue, It is hilarious and laden with references to other video games. The characters break the 4th wall, and are just downright hilarious. I love the use of Yanfly's gab window to see what characters are thinking in during conversations. There is some language, but it is mild.
Originality: This is the most original RPG Maker game I have ever played. Your story is the side story to the real game. You don't even fight, you use your smarts to figure out the puzzles and challenges. I was never bored, and want to play it over and over again.
Verdict: YANTH is a fresh new concept choc full of references and humor. The puzzles are great but the controls are hard to get used to. You need to play this game, now!
9.5/10

First Post, and RPG Maker Forums Contest!
I have been using RPG maker software for a while and really love it. I have been using two emails to have two consecutive trials (sorry!). I plan to make games to release into the community, and add into my portfolio since I want to be a game design student when I graduate from High School. I will also use it for school projects, I have one due in a month that must be an alternative source that the usual presentation methods (Powerpoint,Imovie ect.). RPG Maker VX Ace would be perfect for this, since I already have a lot of experience with the engine. Thanks for your consideration.
